White Elephant Trail Run 28 April 2013
This was the first event for the Margaret River Trail Runners that we invited runners from outside the club - hopefully the first of many. We certainly hope to run this event on a regular basis.
Perfect weather - around 22 degrees, fine and with a light breeze - greeted the runners. Run director Greg asked runners to maintain safety, and remember the Boston Marathon victims, and also those that lost homes in the bushfire that raged through the course just 18 months ago. And then they were off.
It was a tough course, and more than a few might have been surprised by it. Dry weather left the course quite soft, and the big hill out of Ellen Brook was an unexpected problem for some. However there were no complaints, no injuries and no one got lost.
Competitors were greeted at the end by a good crowd of spectators and some great hospitality from the White Elephant cafe.
Thanks to Jody for the images (see below), Greg (Marshal), Ben (First Aid), Dennis (Marshal), and all others that helped. Most of all thanks to the runners.
In particular we would like to thank our sponsors:
- White Elephant Cafe - who done a lot for this run, and whose sponsorship allowed this event to happen.
- Mimosa Retreat: a great first prize and a great place to stay when in Margaret River. (As long as you want affordable luxury by the beach that is).
- Cowaramup Wines. Affordable award winning wines from Margaret River.
- Canebreak Estate. great wines from Margaret River, and grown by club runner Brett Roberts.
Images and Results
We have results (Not sure about the second leg times, they could be out by the same amount (possibly 5 minutes) for Teams and Solo competitors. We have some photos here as well. Let me know if you have more photos and I will upload them.
